Alpha Epsilon Lambda (AEL) is the academic excellence and leadership honor society of graduate and professional school students. AEL is the only national honor society exclusively for graduate students. John Capece, Carole Glover, and Suresh Ramamurthi founded Alpha Epsilon Lambda in 1990 with the specific purpose of recognizing the academic and leadership accomplishments of graduate and professional school students.

Chartered March 2005, the Alpha Xi chapter of Alpha Epsilon Lambda is Virginia Tech’s first honor society devoted exclusively to graduate students. The Society recognizes academic excellence and leadership by graduate and professional school students while striving to enrich the intellectual environment of their education institutions.
